At Banaat Connect, our core program is the Online Language Exchange. In addition to this program, we also run several other initiatives through our center in Jerash Camp. You can learn more about each of them below.

Online Language Exchange
Run out of the Hopes-Sitti Women’s Center, our online language exchange consists of one-on-one sessions between English language learners in Jerash Camp and Arabic language learners in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. We match partners, create curricula for them to use during their sessions, and troubleshoot as necessary to ensure that meetings are going smoothly.

English Classes
In-country volunteers facilitate structured English classes in Jerash Camp on a weekly basis. Classes prepare women to participate in Banaat Connect and help them continue their English practice during and after their participation in language exchange sessions.

E-Tutoring
Our E-Tutoring program consists of one-on-one Arabic language tutoring between trained refugee tutors and non-native learners in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. These tutoring sessions focus solely on the development of the student’s Arabic language skills via customized lessons. Tutors in the Banaat Connect network earn income through this program.

Professional Development Workshops
In-person courses for women in Jerash Camp on topics such as time management, goal setting, and email writing. These classes are calibrated according to the social context in the Camp and are typically led by in-country volunteers.
Coming Soon: Pathways to Employment
The Pathways to Employment program will provide past language exchange participants from Gaza Camp with personalized job and skills counseling and professional experience working with partnered organizations. This program will give women from the camp the experience, training, and skills to become competitive applicants and succeed in the workplace in and out of the camp.
